Moona Star's

Point of Inspiration

Monica’s journey with fashion began in childhood, where she found her first canvas in Barbie dolls and a pair of scissors. What started as playful experimentation blossomed into a lifelong passion for creating beautiful, wearable art.

The birth of her daughter Soluna marked a pivotal moment that brought Moona Star Clothing to life. Inspired by motherhood and a desire to create clothing that honored both the wearer and the earth, Monica envisioned a line built on four essential pillars: comfort, wearability, conscious choices, and timeless beauty.

Slow Fashion

Design Philosophy

Moona Star represents a co-creation between Monica’s love for fashion, nature, and art. We believe in slow fashion, creating pieces that transcend seasonal trends and become treasured additions to your wardrobe. Each garment is designed to age beautifully, developing its own patina and story as it accompanies you through life’s moments.

In a world of fast fashion, Moona Star stands as a testament to the beauty of intentional creation, sustainable practices, and the magic that happens when art and nature collaborate.

From feeling to form

Our Design Process

Our process spans continents and decades of trusted partnerships. Monica collaborates with Hector, her longtime pattern maker of over ten years, who now works from Mexico. The carefully crafted patterns digitally travel to Los Angeles, where skilled artisans cut and sew each piece with meticulous attention to detail. The final transformation happens in Monica’s studio nestled in Topanga Canyon, where she hand-dyes every garment, infusing it with her artistic vision and nature’s colors.

Fabric & Sustainabailtiy

At Moona Star, we work exclusively with natural fibers like cotton, linen, silk, and hemp, chosen through partnerships with suppliers who share our conscious values. Whenever possible, we also use deadstock and recycled materials, ensuring beautiful textiles can coexist with responsible practices.

Made Slowly by Hand

Monica brought the dyeing process home to her Topanga studio, where each garment is finished by hand with intention and care. This studio practice ensures that every piece carries the mark of slow fashion—rooted in artistry, connection, and a rhythm that honors the natural world.

Natural Dye Sources

Monica creates all-natural dyes from flowers, bark, leaves, and seeds, often gathering local materials like black walnut, eucalyptus, oak galls, and native herbs and flowers. These natural dyes are biodegradable, non-toxic, and deeply connected to the earth, offering colors that are as kind to our well-being as they are to the environment.

Designing the Garment

Every piece begins as a blank canvas, thoughtfully designed with the vision of our Topanga artist, healer, friend, mama downtown Los Angeles.

Each garment is made and then carefully treated and prepared, ensuring that the fabric is ready to fully receive the natural colors that will soon be infused into its fibers in our Topanga studio.

Creating the Base Color

A foundation of earth-born color is applied, drawn from flowers, bark, seeds, and leaves. This first wash of pigment grounds the garment with a foundation of tone, ready to be built upon.

Gathering Botanicals

Monica works with the rhythm of the seasons, harvesting eucalyptus, walnut husks, oak galls, native herbs, and blossoms Many sourced directly from her own backyard in Topanga.

Each plant is chosen not only for its color but for the energy and the natural beauty it brings, infusing each garment with a connection to the times

Bundle Dyeing & Botanical Printing

Botanicals are carefully arranged on the fabric, then wrapped or pressed so their pigments release and imprint directly onto the fibers. Each flower and leaf leaves behind its own delicate mark, forming organic patterns that cannot be replicated.

A true co-creation with nature

Revealing the Piece

When the garment is unwrapped, its final form emerges—a textile touched by plants, shaped by intention, and completely unique. No two pieces are ever the same, each holding its own quiet expression of the natural world.
